"
... 0nce a sailor drops his mooring lines or
hoists his anchor, he is cut of from the world
of men and makes a world of his own ... "
I've
been sailing for a long time now. The first
sail boat i ever set foot on was a 29 foot Dufour
Arpège called "DIALA".
It was love at first sight. I never imagined
a feeling could be so peaceful and so intense
at the same time.
I had to wait a while before
i could sail on my own boat. But the satisfation
came in 1999. I bought a sail boat that would
once again absolutely amaze me. She was the
sister ship of the frst boat i ever sailed.
An Arpège.
"Le
Trold" is a 1975 sloop, drawn by Michel
Dufour and built by "Le Stratifié
Industriel".
I have spent a lot of time
working on this boat, every moment of which
i enjoyed immensely. And all of that is in preperation
for the long mediterranean cruises that i am
so eager to go on.
I
have passed my temporary off shore YACHT MASTER
in december 2001, following on shore sessions
in Navigation, Tides, Meteorology, Regulations,
Seamanship, First Aid, Radio Aids, Radiotelephony
and the necessary off shore Log and days at
sea.
2002 was a great year of sailing
for me, "Le
Trold" spent a lot of time at sea.
And I went on a couple of cruises in the mediterranean.
The first, in June 2002 was
a trip
to Turkey. I sailed with four friends on
a 50 foot sail boat " Michnoff " for
about 12 days. A great experience that shown
me parts of Turkey that i never new existed.
I must admit that it is a beatiful country .....
keeping in mind that the turks have occupied
Lebanon for about 400 years, but hey, i'm
not gona hold a grudge. I'ts been a while since
that happened.
(Now my business is with another neighbor that
is still going at it ! )
The
second was in September that same year. But
this time it was a bit closer. I sailed with
a couple of friends on an old 24foot VEGA named
" Poseidon" to Larnaca,
Cyprus. This too was a unique experience.
Especially the trip back .... force 7 ... deuh
...
But all in all it was a great year for me in
sailing. and i hope that the future will be
even better.
If you ever want to go sailing with me one
day be sure to drop
me a line, I would be more then happy to
take you along.
Also I have included a page on the procedures
of entry to Lebanon. Be sure to check them
out if you ever want to visit our beautiful
country by sea.
